Collection

The Fondation Cartier's Collection was born with the institution's creation, and today it comprises over 4 500 works and 500 artists of 60 different nationalities.

The unique tenets that guide its development and its enhancement year after year distinguish it from other collections: It started from nothing and now comprises works presented during the Fondation's exhibitions and works commissioned from artists, charting four decades of international contemporary creation.

The unique works with their powerful realms come from different locations, cultures, and idioms around the world, providing a great diversity of themes that resonate with our time. The Collection isn't limited to visual arts but also embraces architecture, human and non-human sciences, and ecology. Whether the works use the most advanced technologies or take root in ancestral skills, they provide an outline of contemporary art.
