The Fondation Cartier has always looked beyond the boundaries of contemporary art, by inviting us, through seeing, listening, or understanding, to consider human cultures and non-humans as our equals inside a vast shared world, that of living beings.
Through works, that invite us to take a fresh look at the beauty and vulnerability of our natural ecosystems, its collection offers both an aesthetic and political approach to the living.
This orientation engages a reflection on the role of the institution in the memory and preservation of living worlds.
The works in the collection, by articulating stories, sounds, and gestures, together sketch an alternative model of cohabitation between nature and culture, launching a collective challenge to the aesthetic anthropocentrism of the museum.
