The Fondation Cartier presents France’s first exhibition of the young New York artist, Sarah Sze, who has been invited to design a monumental installation for its spacious ground-floor area. Everything That Rises Must Converge is a commissioned project composed of ladders and innumerable small objects spread throughout the two spaces, taking over the floor, the ceiling, and the building’s glass walls.

In her installations, Sarah Sze transforms a litany of objects collected from discount shops and hardware stores into astounding constructions that are rich in both meaning and possibility. Dispersed as exponential constellations in space, these tentacular sculptures do not follow a predetermined scheme. Sarah Sze improvises with respect to the location and, with a free hand, blends the various elements together, patiently arranging her compositions, orchestrating and attending to every detail with the meticulous care of a miniaturist.
