The creation and revival of Spanish art encouraged the Fondation Cartier, in collaboration with the Fundación Caja de Pensiones in Madrid, to host an exhibit dedicated to Spanish painters and sculptors, bringing together seventeen artists, all born after 1940.

This exhibit, largely open to a variety of styles, reflects art’s current trends: a sort of new existentialism in painting and a new surrealism. The diversity of the fifty works displayed is a testament to the vitality of creation in Spain. This overview also aids in better understanding the culture of a country traditionally linked to France and whose significance in 20th century art is vital.
