The Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain presents the exhibition Pain Couture by Jean Paul Gaultier designed specifically for the Fondation by the “enfant terrible of the fashion world.” With wit and fantasy, the famous designer transforms the Fondation Cartier, creating a collection of ephemeral dresses using bread in the place of taffeta and muslin as his fabric.

It is the interweaving of two dreams, a designer who creates exclusively out of flour, water, salt and yeast, and a baker who dreams of being a designer. This fantasy full of humor and brilliance compares the two trades, their gestures, tools, understanding of materials, and skills. A savvy exercise in style, Pain Couture by Jean Paul Gaultier invites visitors to meander through dream and reality in an environment which gratifies all five senses and bridges two worlds: the realism of the bakery and the enchantment of fashion.
