For his first major solo exhibition in France, German photographer Juergen Teller has chosen to present some of the most important photographs of his career, as well as two of his most recent series, Nürnberg and Ed in Japan. The exhibition also focuses on the artist’s work as it appears in publications.

For the Nürnberg series, Juergen Teller returned to this familiar city situated close to his childhood home to photograph the former site of Nazi propaganda rallies: the Zeppelintribüne parade grounds. Photographing the weeds and flowers that invaded the area, Teller records the advancing decay throughout the four seasons. Parallel to these still-life images, Teller includes pictures of his growing family. An emotional panorama drawing on both personal and collective history, the Nürnberg series offers a moving reflection on cyclical renewal and hope.

In Ed in Japan, Juergen Teller’s series devoted to his son and made during a trip to Japan in December 2005, the artist continues to explore the theme of family. Through these joyful images, the artist provides us with his own highly personal perspective on Japan. Whether he is photographing celebrities or himself and his family, Juergen Teller finds poetry in the mundane. His work crosses over the conventional boundaries separating fashion from documentary and public from private, thus giving a profoundly moving and sensitive vision of our times.
