The history of Jean-Pierre Raynaud and the “Pot” began in 1962 when the artist, in a spectacular gesture, filled a flower pot with cement, painted it, and displayed it. Twenty-five years later, the same Pot continued to be part of the artist’s work.

The Histoire du Pot exhibit was born out of the desire to explain Jean-Pierre Raynaud’s work, following the 1985 installation of one of his sculptures in the Fondation’s garden in Jouy-en-Josas. This monumental piece, composed of a white greenhouse with glass walls containing an immense gilded pot, is reminiscent of the artist’s other creations with this theme.
