Calling himself as a “clothing designer” rather than using the French term “styliste de mode”, and thereby reaffirming that form, function and beauty are one, Issey Miyake is first and foremost the originator of an unparalleled design that lies at the intersection of all media, practices and approaches.

The exhibition Issey Miyake, Making Things explores in particularly close detail this new approach to clothing, in which imagination and comfort go hand in hand with the most innovative technology. Wedding beauty and function, Issey Miyake’s highly sophisticated compositions match form and texture to create a fundamental design that takes on a new dimension which foreshadows the twenty-first century.
