As part of Photo Month organized by Paris Audiovisuel, the Fondation Cartier displays a dozen giant Polaroids (6.5 feet) taken by Canadian photographer Evergon.

Through a very sophisticated technique and unique staging, Evergon reinterprets well-known themes in painting, more specifically Baroque painting, such as Caravaggio’s works, for example. To accentuate the theatricality of the scenes, Evergon also uses the “add-on” frame method: four white lines trace a frame all around the subjects and lock them in their attitudes. The closing in on the subjects indicates that, aside from the nostalgia Evergon feels for the Baroque, the crux of his work remains focused on the human figure.
