Explore how craft can shape the way we design, experience and understand exhibitions today. Discover how exhibitions can becore crafted envrionements that reveal hidden narratives, challenge conventions and create deeper connections between materials, culture and audiences.

In the world of exhibition design, craft is often understood through the objects on display, yet its influence extends far beyond what is seen. The Italian design studio Formafantasma, directed by Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin, offers a unique perspective on the relationship between craft, material experimentation and exhibition-making.

The studio’s research-led work demonstrates how material choices, production methods and spatial narratives can transform exhibitions into immersive, emotionally resonant experiences that generate meaning and provoke dialogue. In this discussion, Simone Farresin delves deeper into this approach, inviting audiences to understand how, through a critical and process-driven approach, craft can become a powerful framework for rethinking the role of exhibition design to shape the way we see, interpretand engage with the world around us.

Discover how exhibitions can become crafted environments that reveal hidden narratives, challenge conventions and create deeper connections between materials, culture and audiences.

Formafantasma

Formafantasma, founded in 2009 by Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin, is a research-based design studio investigating the ecological, historical, political and social forces shaping the discipline of design today. Its aim is to facilitate a deeper understanding of both our natural and built environments and to propose transformative interventions through design and its material, technical, social and discursive possibilities. Working out of Milan and Rotterdam, the practice embraces a broad spectrum of typologies and methods, from product design through spatial design, strategic planning and design consultancy. Whether designing to a client's brief or developing self-initiated projects, the studio applies the same rigorous attention to context, process and detail.
