To celebrate the opening of the exhibition Breath of an Architect, the Fondation Cartier brings together Indian architect Bijoy Jain and Japanese artistic director Taku Satoh, longstanding friends, to pursue before a live audience, their conversation begun for the exhibition catalogue, on the theme of “creating to the sound of one’s breath”. The discussion will be followed by a signing of the exhibition catalogue by Bijoy Jain.

From December 9, 2023, to April 21, 2024, the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain presents Breath of an Architect, an exhibition specially created by architect Bijoy Jain, founder of Studio Mumbai, in India.

Designed as a space of reverie and contemplation in dialogue with Jean Nouvel’s iconic building, the exhibition Breath of an Architect attempts to provide a glimpse, however fleeting that may be, into the sensuality of architecture, the intuitive force that connects us to the elements, and our emotional relationship to space.

“The entire space is designed in relation to the breath—the inspiration and expiration—, but also in relation to the body, the hand, the heart, and the spirit. Or the imagination. Nothing else.”

Bijoy Jain (excerpt from the conversation between Bijoy Jain and Taku Satoh published in the exhibition catalogue).
