Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain

2, place du Palais-Royal, 75001 Paris

La librairie 2025

Located in the front corner, facing the Louvre, and visible from the Rue de Rivoli thanks to its glass front, the bookshop reflects the Fondation Cartier's spirit: it is a place for knowledge and encounters, and a major reference in the field of Contemporary Art.

A haven of culture and a place for sharing

It gives pride of place to the Fondation Cartier's publications, which illustrate the diversity and wide range of disciplines represented in its programme. The Fondation has been a publisher since it was created, having published over 200 exhibition catalogues as well as essays, illustrated books, limited editions, and colouring books.

More than simple reproductions of its exhibitions, the Fondation's publications are both an exploration and a receptacle for the ideas of the artists who actively participate in their conception. Authors from various other disciplines contribute to the works: writers, philosophers, ethnologists, historians, and scientists are invited to give their view of the artists' works, in the same spirit of decompartmentalisation and curiosity that are typical of the Fondation Cartier's programme. At the same time, the Fondation celebrates encounters with artists with whom it has close ties such as Raymond Depardon, David Lynch, and Nobuyoshi Araki.

This diversity of publications extends further still to the Louvre Palais-Royal with the publication of major works on upcoming artistic projects, Jean Nouvel's architecture, and the Fondation Cartier's Collection, as well as the republication of founding texts and books for children, such as a pop-up book on the history of the Fondation and its new building by artist Yann Kebbi.

The bookshop is also a selection of unique works presented by medium and by discipline, as well as a wide range of institutional collectibles and inspired by the exhibitions. Our offering evolves according to our programme, with themed selections devised as extensions of the exhibitions and projects presented. When enhanced with new articles, the space can be reorganised thanks to a system of modular furniture created specifically for the premises by Jean Nouvel Design.

During exhibitions, the library is solely accessible to visitors with valid entry tickets. Between exhibitions, it can be accessed by all, free of charge, from its entrance on the Rue de Rivoli.
