Andrea Branzi is an Italian architect and designer who was a founding member of Archizoom Associati (1964–1974), one of the premier avant-garde architecture collectives to win a renown comparable to Archigram or Superstudio, with whom Archizoom shared an exhibition in Pistoia in 1966.
Archizoom's works have been presented in iconic exhibitions such as Emilio Ambasz's Italy: The New Domestic Landscape, at the New York MoMA in 1972. Branzi was also a cofounder of the Domus Academy, the famed design school in Milan, as well as the author of several books on the design theory and history, notably Weak and Diffuse Modernity: The World of Projects at the Beginning of the 21st Century (Skira, 2006) and The Hot House: Italian New Wave Design (MIT Press, 1986). In 1994, he received the Compasso d'Oro for his lifetime achievements
His works figure in the collections of many prestigious institutions. In 2008, he presented Open Enclosures at the Fondation Cartier, the first institution exhibition dedicated to his oeuvre. It was followed in 2014 by the retrospective Andrea Branzi, Pleased to Meet You, 50 Years of Art, organised by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs et du Design in Bordeaux. The Fondation Cartier, in partnership with the Milan Triennale, will be dedicating a new solo exhibition in 2026 to commemorate this architect and designer, who passed away in 2023.
