Ron Mueck works in film and children’s television making models and puppets in Australia, the United States, and England. In the early 1990s, he makes commissions for the European advertising industry.

This year marks the start of his career as an artist. His sculpture of Pinocchio, commissioned by the artist Paula Rego, is shown alongside her paintings in the exhibition Spellbound: Art and Film at the Hayward Gallery in London. The art dealer and collector Charles Saatchi notices Mueck’s work and commissions him three sculptures for his collection.

His iconic work Dead Dad, a diminutive depiction of his dead father lying naked, is featured in the famed exhibition Sensation: Young British Artists from the Saatchi Collection at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.

Ron Mueck is appointed Associate Artist at the National Gallery in London, occupying a studio there for two years. During this residency, he produces three of his best-known works: Mother and Child, Man in a Boat, and Pregnant Woman, shown at a solo exhibition in the museum in 2003.
