About the publication

In 2008, the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain welcomed famous Italian designer Andrea Branzi, who on this occasion created two monumental installations specifically for the ground floor of Jean Nouvel’s building. Combining a variety of materials including glass and steel, hemp and bamboo shoots, the artist has devised a frail, delicate, and poetic architectural structure in which industrial, manufactured, technological, and natural elements are intertwined.
To accompany the exhibition, the Fondation Cartier published a catalog which illustrates this outstanding project, including preliminary sketches and photographs of the works installed within the glass exhibition spaces of Jean Nouvel’s building. The book hinges around an interview with Catherine David, former curator at the Centre Pompidou and the Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume, director of Documenta X in Kassel (1997), and former director of the Centre d’Art Contemporain Witte de With in Rotterdam from 2001 to 2004.
