About the publication
Because he loves metamorphosis, sublimation, and transmutation, Jean-Michel Othoniel favors materials with reversible properties. Born in 1964, he was first noticed for his sculptures in sulfur, lead, wax, or phosphorus. In 1993 he brought glass into his work and still explores the properties of this material today.
Published for the Crystal Palace exhibition organized by the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in 2003, this catalog brings together his glass works : necklaces, masts, and fountains with beads and pendants dangling on high, illuminated in the sunlight.
