About the night class
As part of the exhibition The Valley, the Fondation Cartier invites Julie Chapon, cofounder of Yuka, and Fatima Ouassak, political scientist and anti-racist, feminist, and environmental activist, to participate in the Voices of the Valley evening class series. Within the exhibition spaces, the guest speakers discuss the hypotheses proposed by Fabrice Hyber in his paintings before a live audience.
Over the course of this evening, Julie Chapon and Fatima Ouassak will discuss new ways of eating and learning about the challenges of climate change and the use of inputs. They will explore the potential of education, consumer communities, and the maternal figure in the implementation of vegetarian alternatives in canteens and in an attempt to counter industrial risks and air pollution. Taking inspiration from Hyber’s works like La Plante totale, Digest, and L’invention de l’agriculture, the speakers will examine the link between food and society.
This live discussion will be broadcast simultaneously on the websites of the Fondation Cartier and *Duuu Radio, and in the form of podcasts via the main platforms.

Julie ChaponJulie Chapon is the cofounder of Yuka. After graduating from the business school Edhec, she joined a consulting firm and accompanied businesses in their digital transformation. Over the years, she felt that this job was increasingly meaningless. In 2016, she and two friends, François and Benoît, participated in a food-themed hackathon. Over the course of the weekend, they developed the foundations of what Yuka is today and won the hackathon event. This was a real lightbulb moment for Julie: the project made sense and met a veritable need. Julie, François, and Benoît embarked on the adventure full-time. Today, Yuka has 37 million users and is present across twelve countries. It is currently experiencing strong growth in the United States.

Fatima OuassakFatima Ouassak is an environmental activist who participated in the founding of the parents’ union known as Front de mères in 2016, and in the first House of Popular Ecology, Verdragon, in 2021. She is also an essayist, author of La Puissance des mères (2020) and Pour une écologie pirate (2023) published by La Découverte, the first two parts of a trilogy. She has a special interest in issues relating to land and food, social and environmental justice, and animal liberation.
