Exhibition overview

The camera functions as a mirror which duplicates both image and medium, the malleability and reversibility. These works open the way to a wide-ranging reflection on identity and difference, similarity and dissimilarity, through projected self-portraits, shadows and their doubles, replicas, forgeries, clones created by Keith Cottingham in his fictional portraits, impostures and misleading appearance which question, in a critical, disturbing or amusing way, the close ties between reproducibility and originality.

The exhibition in detail

This intrinsically photographic but hitherto neglected concept underlies the exhibition Double vie, Double vue. The exhibition comprises some 150 works by 60 artists and will be shown on the theme “An Art for Two” (duos, couples, twins), one of the three subjects put forward for the French “Mois de la Photo” in Paris.
