About the publication

Born in Germany in 1964, Juergen Teller moved to London in 1986, where he soon made a name for himself in the world of fashion photography and was rapidly noticed for his spontaneous yet subtly elaborated images that seem to be taken from real life.
The Do You Know What I Mean catalog published for the exhibition at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in 2006 recreates the diversity and sensitivity of this photographer by exploring his entire work. It features his famous portraits of celebrities, such as Charlotte Rampling and Kate Moss, as well as more personal series, such as Ed in Japan and Nürnberg. Whether he is photographing models and celebrities or himself and his family, Juergen Teller reveals the poetry of daily life. His images are moving, funny, harsh, or tender—a truly striking look at our times.
