About the publication
Presented in 1988, the exhibition La Mode, une nouvelle génération sprang from a partnership between the Institut Français de la Mode and the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain to propose a reflection on fashion and creation. A European competition featuring 100 candidates was held in order to select six designers to take part in the exhibition. The jury considered the inventiveness of the proposals while privileging the designers’ humor and professionalism. The exhibition catalog offers a chance to discover the very different worlds of the six winning designers, each of whom delivers their vision of fashion through texts and sketches. The catalog is completed by interviews with personalities in the field (journalists, haute couture designers, art directors, curators...) that shed new light on the transformations taking place within the discipline and the future challenges to be faced. |
