“Lina_Raül Refree, weightless fado” Jacques Denis, Libération

The Spanish composer and musician Raül Refree has always been impassioned by traditional music. An avid experimenter, he has incessantly explored new expressions of contemporary flamenco, collaborating with artists like Niño de Elche, Lee Ranaldo and Rosalía. When he heard the voice of Lina for the first time in a Lisbon club, he was overcome with emotion. The urge to explore the repertory of Amália Rodrigues was born, removing the instrumental dogmas of fado while preserving its depth of soul. With piano and vintage synthesizers, Refree unfurls analog clouds around Lina’s voice, and while the traditional guitars have disappeared, the solemn force of song remains. Lina “[…] possesses a voice of fiercely intimate power and texture, capable within one brief musical phrase of tempting a bird to the windowsill and blowing the opera doors clean off,” according to the Pitchfork website.

A concert showcasing the absolute emotion of fado.
