The series of talks and panel discussions will encompass a year of architecture in one day, spotlighting impactful projects and ideas from the past 12 months. Curated by The World Around’s executive director, Beatrice Galilee, the speakers represent the now, near, and next of architecture, and share both new and under-construction projects, research, ideas, and innovations.
For this year’s edition of the Summit, a panel, presented and co-curated with the Fondation Cartier’s Director of Strategic Projects, Béatrice Grenier, will focus on the theme of architecture and landscape. Panelists include Professor Kongjian Yu, Principal Designer of Turenscape; Joe Christa Giraso of MASS Design Group; and Lisa Switkin, Senior Principal at Field Operations.
In 2023, the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain joined The World Around as a Global Cultural Partner, wherein the two institutions will collaborate on three public programs in three different cities, convening the international architecture community around critical topics.
The first event of this series took place at Triennale Milano in September of 2023 and invited lectures by Yasmeen Lari, Jeanne Gang, and Joseph Grima for a wider conversation centered on “radical repair.” The aforementioned panel will serve as the second public program in the series, and the two institutions will collaborate on a third public program in China this fall.
The World Around Annual Summit 2024 is co-presented by The World Around and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Their collaborative programming partnership began in 2021 when The World Around was in residence at the museum.
