Exhibition overview

Bringing together some twenty works and video environments, which include seven new pieces, 261 Boulevard Raspail, Paris XIV was entirely conceived by the artist. Enumerating all the different techniques he has ever used in his work, ranging from autofilming to burlesque three-dimensional skits, here, Pierrick Sorin stages a recurrent theme in his work: the relationship between the intimate world of daily life as a place of action and creation (the kitchen, bedroom, garden, etc. are metaphors for the studio) and the space of vision (the museum or gallery).

The exhibition in detail

“The idea of making a home in the Fondation Cartier also reflects a desire to regain a certain kind of liberty in my work, like what I had when I was 20 years old. It’s also a way of showing that the artist is not just someone who makes videos or paintings but also someone who has been looking for and inventing things since he was little, who tries to delve into different forms of expression, not necessarily to find a precise route but simply because curiosity sometimes makes us incapable of getting stuck in one mode of expressions.”

Pierrick Sorin, 2000.
