Exhibition overview
The Fondation Cartier presents the work of nineteen furniture designers living in France. This array of objects is the result of a new generation of designers encountering a new material: medium density fiberboard (MDF).
It is primarily due to the precious appearance of MDF, which is similar to burl wood, that these nineteen French designers took advantage of it and made its aesthetic appeal even more visible. This exhibit offers a sweeping, coherent view into France’s resurgence in the field of creating furniture with new materials.
