For his first solo exhibition in Europe, John Maeda has chosen to present nature and "eye’m hungry", two new series created specially for the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain.
The nature series consists of seven “motion paintings” representing abstract forms in movement that recall natural phenomena. Culling his metaphors from nature—trees, sky, grass, moon, rain, snow—he offers us a glimpse of digital space in the spirit of landscape painting. Projected onto large screens, these digital landscapes are generated by a new software technology that the artist created in order to “paint” in space and time.
"eye’m hungry" is comprised of six interactive stations designed specifically with children in mind. Exploring the theme of food with whimsy and humor, this series provides young visitors with opportunities for interactive abstraction.
