Exhibition overview

In the eyes of Gottfried Honegger, the primary purpose of art is to change the world. At the age of 81, he is now inaugurating a new phase in his work and presenting his “metamorphosis” at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain. The over eighty paintings and sculptures in this exhibition offer a viewpoint on his art and highlight the position occupied by color in his work.
Against a backdrop of scenery designed by the architect Jean Nouvel, the exhibition transports the artist’s studio in Cannes to the ground floor of the Fondation Cartier. Here visitors are able to view his latest sculptures, displayed for the very first time. Far from being seen as a retrospective, the itinerary through the lower level of the building is a journey through his painting, from the fifties to the present.
