About the publication

Richard Artschwager’s project at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in 1994 was both ambitious and generous: the result of a commission which the Fondation Cartier made for the building by Jean Nouvel, it obliged the artist to move away from his usual scale and adapt his works to the monumentality of the spaces. The three sculptures he presented, Pyramid II, L’arbre chez lui, and Question Mark reveal the sheer poetry that emanates from his work, darting between fiction and reality.
The exhibition catalog retraces the full story of this commission, from creation to installation of the works, with texts and images covering the various stages. It also proposes thoughts on Richard Artschwager’s work and a “self-chronology” penned by the artist.
