Gérard Garouste Ellipse

Born in Paris in 1946, Gérard Garouste focuses on the renewal of the “history painting” genre with his ideas on the mythical figures of art and literature, from the “dive Bacbuc” (the bottle) to Don Quixote.
The catalog Gérard Garouste, Ellipse is devoted to the monumental installation that was presented at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in 2001. In this cross between a tent and the follies that dotted 18th century gardens, a mixture of fables cover 54 panels, leaving the viewer with an entirely free interpretation and proposing a form of meandering ethic where the best path is always the longest.
