Nomadic Night
[Canceled] Ana Pi, O Banquete
Dance
To talk of love and healing in tragedy is the aim behind the project entitled O Banquete, the latest creation by Brazilian dancer and choreographer Ana Pi. In a reference to Plato’s exclusively masculine banquet, Ana Pi invites Mylia Mary, her paternal aunt, and philosopher Maria Fernanda Novo to dance together and cook an iconic Brazilian dish. For these three Black women, this banquet is a pretext to evoking, through gesture and rhythm, contemporary Brazil, and inviting audiences to reflect on the notions of heritage, affect and resistance.
Following the performance is a screening of one of the videos from which Ana Pi took inspiration for the creation of O Banquete, coming from the archival fund of the Associação Cultural Videobrasil de São Paulo (the commissioner of the work).
