About the exhibition
From April 2 to June 29, 2025, the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain and the Power Station of Art are pleased to present ... de la vallée, a monographic exhibition of renowned French artist Fabrice Hyber. This exhibition features over 70 works that span from the 1990s to the artist’s most recent pieces, including works specifically created for this occasion.
Named after the artist’s countryside estate where Hyber lives and works in the West of France, ... de la vallée (... from the valley) metaphorically and physically transports the artist’s homeland to Shanghai. Visitors are invited to discover the very origin of the multiple dimensions of Hyber’s art: the forest he has been sowing and growing since the 1990s around his parents' former sheep farm. This special place is both a laboratory of ideas, a workshop and a natural refuge, yet one that the artist has created from scratch.
Imagined as a dream-like garden, the show invites us to sit, read, learn and question Hyber’s many interests: Nature, cosmos, mathematics, architecture, poetry… The exhibition turns into a new type of school, open to any possibilities, and transforms visitors into students. In 2024, Hyber collaborated with craftsmen in Jingdezhen, the city of Chinese porcelain, to create a unique artwork for the Shanghai Metro in Lujiazui Station as a symbol of the cultural exchanges and friendship between China and France. Some new enameled ceramics produced on the occasion of this collaboration will be presented for the first time in the exhibition.
First artist-in-residence in 1990, Hyber and the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain maintained close ties ever since. The artist took part in the exhibition Trees, held in Paris in 2019, then at the PSA in Shanghai in 2021. In 2022, Hyber presented La Vallée, a solo show at the Fondation. ... de la vallée also marks the 7th collaboration between PSA and the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain.
