Être nature

Questioning mimicry and the reciprocity between the work of art and the work of nature, the Être nature exhibition presented at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in 1988 brought together contemporary artists from all over the world around art and the living.
The exhibition catalog plays on surprise and illusion, awakening and unsettling the senses at the same time. The bewildering doubt between what is born of the artist’s hand and what seems to be a natural readymade necessarily provokes reflection on the essence of the work of art.
