About the publication

In 1992, the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain presented the exhibition Too French at the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo, bringing together 21 artists. Over and above their historical and aesthetic ties, the works exhibited evoked colors and landscapes reminiscent of France. More than a list of artists, this exhibition proposed a critical look at French creation.
Critical collaboration from Louis Marin, Yves Michaud, Robert Rosenblum, and Fei Dawei quashed or confirmed this intention and acted as a kind of “sub-title” to the 20 sets of works reproduced in the exhibition catalog.
