About the publication

In 1997, the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain presented Coïncidence, an exhibition where objects, images, and works were presented for judgment, risked refusal and sometimes even violence, but also provided a chance to meet and share. The Coïncidences exhibition catalog shows artists’ views of the world and features works that move in a free space where anyone can create their own fiction, giving rise to fresh speculations. Through the diversity of forms, gestures and undertakings they reveal, these works establish, inaugurate, and happen.
