About the publication

Literature is full of the discourse of love, but it is through images that man expresses the mystery of love most intensely. The exhibition Amour presented at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in 1997 brought together 100 old and contemporary works (drawings, paintings, sculptures, photographs, as well as video and film) and invited visitors to take a different look at them, over and above their historical roots.
Featuring boldly original parallels and crossovers between cultures and eras, the exhibition catalog proposes a poetic and aesthetic musing on love and its representations.
