The Adagio Piece
During the performance La grande vente aux enchères d’idées brillantes mais non réalisées (the great auction of brilliant but unrealized ideas) by artist Sarah Vanhee, presented at the Printemps de Septembre 2012, Jacques Toubon purchased The Adagio Piece, an (unrealized) idea of the composer Sébastien Roux. For the Fondation Cartier’s 30th anniversary, the latter offers to finally bring his idea to life with Jacques Toubon’s consent.
The Adagio Piece is initially a verbal score: “collecting all of the adagios written by a composer born between 1750 and 1850. Transposing them to the same key and extending them to last two hours each. Then superimposing them.” Over the course of the evening, Sébastien Roux will present a first version of this score during a listening session where the audience will be free to meander from one adagio piece to another. All of these transposed and extended pieces by Ludwig Van Beethoven will be dispersed across the Fondation Cartier’s exhibition spaces.
